As the Latvian Presidency has come to an end, we would like to take this opportunity and thank the preceding Presidencies for the input they have provided, the delegates from all Member States, as well as the Commission for the active cooperation and support we have had all along these six months.
During the first time Presidency, the Latvian Presidency has completed the dossier on the ECB Recommendations to cover the new specific tasks conferred on the ECB concerning the prudential supervision of credit institutions. Informal meetings with the EP TRAN committee, as well as DG MOVE and European Railway Agency have been held regarding Rail transport statistics. The dossier on Inland waterways transport statistics has been dealt with in cooperation with interested Member States, since the Latvian Presidency does not have in-depth expertise in this field. As a result of informal contacts, at the beginning of June the EP proposed its wording on the pilot studies. In Extrastat dossier during the written consultations vast majority of countries have indicated that they would wait till the New Memorandum of Understanding on delegated acts is signed.
Thanks to the excessive efforts of the Italian Presidency, Regulation (EU) No 2015/579 amending Regulation (EU) No 223/2009 on European statistics was published in the Official Journal on 19 May 2015.
The Latvian Presidency has concluded discussions at the CWPS level on the Balance of Payments regulation, and on 27 May 2015 the compromise proposal of the Latvian Presidency was endorsed unanimously by the COREPER II as a general approach. The ECON Committee has voted on its amendments on 25 June 2015. Further discussions will take place during the Luxembourgish Presidency.
Regarding Harmonised Indices of Consumer Prices Regulation, the Latvian Presidency has dedicated five meetings on this subject, at rather technical level. As the Latvian Presidency was forced to cancel the last planned CWPS meeting, the Presidency introduced modifications to the compromise text as it was agreed in the meeting on 19 May, and in order to reach an agreement at the CWPS level, the Presidency launched the written consultation, which resulted in a general support for the Presidency proposal. Following that, on 29 June 2015 the compromise proposal of the Latvian Presidency was endorsed by the COREPER II.
On 29 June in Jūrmala, Latvia, the Presidency of the Working Party on Statistics was officially handed over to our colleagues from Luxembourg. We wish them all the success and confidence for the positive outcome of their work.
Let us express our special thanks also to the Council General Secretariat and the Council Legal Service for the valuable and timely assistance and professional support they have given us.
A final progress report on all legislative files dealt with under the Latvian Presidency is available on the Presidency website athttp://eu2015.csb.gov.lv/content/meetings-documents.
